WHAT TO EXPECT FOR TREATMENT Osteopathy is a gentle manual therapy which is suitable for children of all ages, including babies. In the first appointment a case history will be taken in order to formulate a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. When it comes to paediatric osteopathy (treating children and babies) Cyrille will ask a series of questions based on current symptoms, progression of the pregnancy, the nature of the baby's delivery, all in order to establish the impact this has had on you and your baby’s health and medical history. In paediatric osteopathy we look at how areas of tension or discomfort may have developed and possibly affect the general health of your baby during the 9 months from conception to birth.
EXAMINATION Examination includes an assessment of general health and when examining babies, a thorough developmental check is made (including milestone development). Cyrille has had extensive paediatric training, so his examination of your child will be very similar to the checks carried out by the paediatrician before being discharged from hospital. At the same time in the examination he can also apply gentle techniques to make an assessment of the baby's health and an impression of the quality of the tissues. Through this he can sense how the body may be affected by the present symptoms and what factors may be contributing to or maintaining it. For feeding issues in babies, it is often useful to observe feeding (breast or bottle) to determine the postural influences on feeding. Cyrille can also examine and treat babies whilst they are feeding (breast or bottle) if the parent is comfortable with this.
