Spotlight on the Retailer: The Clonmel Acupuncture Centre Monday July 14, 2014 - courtesy of clonmel.ie This blog is part of a series of Blogs called Spotlight on the Retailer. Each week we will feature a retailer in Clonmel and find out about their experiences of having a business in the town. This week we met Katie Murphy from The Clonmel Acupuncture Centre and found out what makes her passionate about her business and what has been one of her favourite moments in business so far. When and why did you set up your business? I set up The Clonmel Acupuncture & Massage Centre in March 2005. I had returned from my post-graduate training in Shaghai, China, and was full of energy to start up in Clonmel. I had been working in Limerick as a mobile physical therapist, Marc, my husband found my old premises, on the corner of Mitchell St and Gladstone St. It was perfect for the Clinic. So with some TLC & hard work I opened up. I was stunned with the initial word of mouth. I love treating families, and couples, some now are on their 3rd babies with us. What has been your best moment in business? I can't really choose one particular favourite moment. We are lucky in our business, every day people come in, for example, crippled with back pain, or suffering from a huge amount of stress, and to see those people leave 60 minutes later, feeling so much better, well that's wonderful moment, each day. What makes you passionate about your business? I love my job. Acupuncture is a truly incredible tool, that helps so many people, with a huge variety of conditions. I think my business has a huge heart, we all care deeply about the patients we treat. Our standards have always been high. We are famous for the beautiful aromas in the air in each room. I am an aromatherapist, and I'm very passionate about creating the right essential oil blend in each treatment room. There are as many as 2000 acupuncture points in the human body, all with specific locations & functions, so we never stop learning and developing the skill. How have you responded to the changes in your business? In 2011 and 2012 I had my two children, so my work/life balance changed dramatically. I took on some amazing Acupuncturists, Brian, and Sinead. Siobhan Croke joined us in 2013, and she's got so much energy, a real gem. Emily Graafland took over as the centres Massage Therapist, Reflexologist & Reiki Healer, Emily has magic hands! In March this year I made a huge decision to move premises to a beautiful Georgian building, 5 Sarsfield Street, just 40 steps from our previous location. We all love it here so much. The treatment rooms are fantastic, spacious, and the perfect environment to relax and unwind. We now have the room to expand into different areas, and grow in exciting new ways...watch this space! To make us as accessible as possible, to as many people, we offer deals such as 6 treatments for the price of 5. Emily runs a monthly deal for all massage. This month we are starting up our IVF and natural fertility packages, to allow couples to save as much money as possible, but still get as many treatments as they can. We are on Facebook, and our website, keeps every body up to date. Since 2005 The Centre has been VHI, Layla, Aviva plus more healthcare providers approved. What is your favourite memory or story from your business? Probably treating a lady in her early 40's, she had been told that her chances of conceiving, even with IVF were less than 2%. She came in very upset having just had her consultation with an IVF clinic. 4 months later she conceived naturally, 18 months later she gave birth to her second child! There is so much joy in those moments, I treasure them! The Clonmel Acupuncture & Therapy Centre 2 Dr Croke Place Clonmel, Co. Tipperary 0879241021 www.clonmel-acupuncture.com |
